At Dierenarts Boschhoven, we deal with a wide variety of situations involving different types of pets every day. A day in our practice is never dull! We regularly treat dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and other rodents that require veterinary care. Below, we have listed the most common cases seen at our veterinary clinic. Does your pet need medical attention? Please call our clinic in Leende or Heeze.
MOST COMMON CASES AT DIERENARTS BOSCHHOVEN
- Ate something they shouldn’t have
The most common situation we see in our clinic is pets that have eaten something they are not allowed to eat. Think, for example, of chocolate, which is toxic to many animals and can have serious consequences. We also often see cases where pets have swallowed toys, household items or soft toys. Recently, we treated a patient who had eaten a Sinterklaassurprise. Thanks to the owner’s alertness and quick action, we were able to surgically remove the surprise, including the needles.
Has your pet eaten something unusual? Please contact us immediately. If we intervene in time, the problem can often be resolved successfully.
- Injuries
Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Pets love to play and can easily injure themselves. For example, they may step on something sharp during walks or outdoor play, or a (friendly) scuffle with the neighbourhood cat may result in injuries. Superficial wounds often heal on their own and do not necessarily require treatment by our vets. The most important thing is to prevent your pet from licking the wound, as this slows healing and may cause infection. Clean and disinfect the wound and treat it with a gel, spray, cream or ointment. We offer a range of protective wound-care products in our clinic. Please contact us for protective collars, recovery suits or bandages. If your pet has a serious wound, contact our veterinary clinic immediately.
- Bite wounds
This is a very common case in our clinic. Dogs and cats are naturally curious and sometimes get into fights. If your pet sustains a bite wound, it is advisable to contact our veterinary clinic in Leende or Heeze straight away. At our practice, we disinfect and suture the wound to ensure proper healing. In addition to visible injuries, your dog may also have suffered internal damage. Internal bleeding, joint damage or spinal injuries are serious conditions that require immediate treatment. Please contact us if your dog has a bite wound.
- Fractures
Broken bones are frequently seen in our clinic. Not only falls, but also fights or, in the worst case, traffic accidents can cause fractures. You may recognise a fracture in your pet by the following symptoms: your pet suddenly no longer walks on all four legs, a leg is hanging at an unusual angle, the limb appears swollen and painful, or the bone is protruding through a wound in the skin. We investigate suspected fractures using X-rays or, if necessary, refer your pet for a CT scan. This allows us to identify all fractures and internal issues. After the examination, we discuss the results and any treatment costs with you, so you know exactly what to expect. Never ignore a fracture in your pet, as this can have fatal consequences.
- Dental problems
We humans brush our teeth twice a day, which is perfectly normal. Did you know that maintaining your pet’s dental health is essential for their overall wellbeing? Dental problems are not always immediately visible, but they can often be recognised by the following symptoms:
- Bad breath
- Eating much less or hardly eating at all
- Chewing on one side only
- Red gums
- Excessive salivation
- Scratching at the muzzle
At Dierenarts Boschhoven, we carry out dental treatments for pets. Our veterinary clinic in Heeze is equipped with modern dental instruments that allow us to treat dental problems effectively.
